I help retirees discover Ireland's most beautiful coastal walks safely
For 16 years, I've walked every major cliff path and seaside trail in Ireland. Now I share that knowledge to help older adults experience the country's natural beauty without worry.
How I Became Obsessed with Ireland's Coastal Paths
Growing up in County Cork, I spent my childhood hiking with my grandmother. She'd take me to places most tourists never reach — quiet coves, hidden cliff paths, the kind of walks where you'd see more seabirds than people. I didn't realise it then, but those walks were teaching me something crucial: the Irish coastline has stories to tell, if you know where to listen.
After finishing my environmental science degree at UCC in 2008, I worked three years with the Irish Wildlife Trust as a ranger. The job was good — proper conservation work, real impact. But something was missing. I wanted to share what I knew about these landscapes with people who'd appreciate them most. People like my grandmother, who were getting older but refused to stop exploring.
So in 2011, I made the leap to full-time guide work. That decision changed everything. I started documenting trails with accessibility in mind — not because it was trendy, but because I watched my grandmother struggle on poorly-maintained paths and think, "This shouldn't be this hard." Over the past 16 years, I've personally walked every major cliff path and seaside trail in Ireland. Multiple times. In different seasons. I know where the loose rocks are. I know which rest spots have the best views. I know which gradients will leave someone breathless, and which ones are genuinely gentle.
Accessible Coastal Walking Routes for Retirees
I focus on the walks that matter most — routes that deliver genuine beauty without excessive difficulty, and detailed guidance for older adults who refuse to slow down.
Cliff Path Assessment
I evaluate every surface, gradient, and safety feature. Not generic difficulty ratings — real details about what to expect on the ground.
Route Planning for Seniors
Custom guides accounting for pace, rest points, access to facilities, and avoiding unnecessary risk. You get to enjoy the walk, not survive it.
Accessibility Documentation
Detailed notes on mobility access, parking proximity, weather exposure, and whether the walk suits your fitness level and interests.
Local Wildlife & Ecology
Environmental science background means I understand what you're looking at. I share the ecology and conservation context that makes these walks meaningful.
Navigation Guidance
Clear directions that don't assume you're tech-savvy. I write for people who prefer paper maps and straightforward instructions.
Collaboration with Tourism Bodies
I've worked with the Irish Ramblers Association on trail development and consulted for tourism councils across Dublin, Wicklow, Clare, and Limerick.

Age Doesn't Mean Limitation
I've guided walkers in their 70s, 80s, and beyond to places they thought they'd never see again. The walks aren't watered down — they're properly matched to ability and interest.
Details Matter More Than Difficulty Ratings
Generic "moderate" means nothing. I describe surface texture, gradient changes, exposure to wind, where you'll feel tired, and which sections demand concentration.
Safety Comes Before Everything
I won't recommend a route unless I'm confident it's safe for its target group. I've walked every path myself, often multiple times, in different conditions.
Context Enriches Experience
I don't just tell you where to walk. I explain the geology you're standing on, the birds you might see, the history embedded in the landscape, and why these places matter.
"Age shouldn't limit access to Ireland's natural beauty. It should inform how we experience it — thoughtfully, safely, and with genuine appreciation for what we're seeing."
