Layering is key on the Irish coast. Wind and weather change quickly, so bring a waterproof jacket even if it looks clear. Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are essential — coastal paths can be slippery when wet
Late spring through early autumn (May-September) offers the best weather and longest daylight hours. Summer crowds peak in July and August — consider visiting in shoulder months for quieter walks with similar conditions
Stay on marked paths, especially near cliff edges. Bring plenty of water and snacks. Let someone know your route and expected return time. Many walks have limited phone signal, so download offline maps if needed
All four walks are accessible by car or public transport. Howth and Bray are served by Dublin's DART train. Cliffs of Moher and Loop Head require a short drive from the nearest towns, but parking is available at trailheads
