Common Questions About Coastal Walks in Ireland
Everything you need to know about our guided cliff walks and seaside trails for active retirees
Our walks range from 5 to 8 kilometres depending on the route. The Howth Cliff Path is 5km, Bray to Greystones is 8km along a gentle promenade, and Loop Head offers flexible shorter loops of 3-4km. You don't need to be super fit—we design these routes specifically for active retirees with rest stops built in throughout.
The Bray to Greystones walk is our most accessible option—it's flat the entire way along the seafront with cafes and benches for resting. Howth and the Cliffs of Moher do have uneven terrain and steps, though we mark alternative routes where possible. Contact us about your specific needs and we'll recommend the best option for you.
May to September offers the most reliable weather, though Irish coastal paths are walkable year-round. Spring (April-May) brings wildflowers along Loop Head, while autumn (September-October) has fewer crowds and beautiful light. Winter can be stunning but bring proper gear—the wind and shorter daylight need respect.
We offer detailed written guides for self-guided walks covering terrain, parking, rest stops, and local history. If you'd like a live guide for group walks, contact us about our small-group experiences. Either way, you'll get practical tips on pacing, weather considerations, and the best spots for photos.
All our routes are designed for solo walkers—our guides work just as well if you're exploring at your own pace. Many of our community members walk these paths regularly and love meeting others at rest points. If you'd prefer company, we can connect you with other walkers or arrange a guided group experience.
Proper footwear (waterproof hiking boots for uneven paths), a waterproof jacket, and sun protection are essentials. Bring water, snacks, and a fully charged phone. Our guides include specific packing lists for each route. Start with one of our easier walks like Bray to Greystones to get a feel for coastal walking, then build up to the more challenging terrain at Howth or Cliffs of Moher.
